Under 11 Lions raid the Castles
Saturday 29 September 2012
AFC Portchester Castles U11 v Crofton Saints Lions U11
at Wicor Recreation Ground
This was a good win by the Lions against a strong and determined AFC Portchester Castles. Indeed, for periods during the match the Lions were penned back in their own half, but it was the Lions that triumphed in the end with three goals from Kai Sterne (one a great header) and a fantastic 20 yard shot from Tommy Milchard. There was an outstanding performance down the Lions left wing where the pace and trickery of Harry O’Malley often took him past helpless defenders to set up chances on the Portchester goal. There was also an outstanding performance by Joe O’Mahony in the heart of the Lions defence. However, all of the boys contributed to this hard fought win. In truth, although the match could have gone either way, had it not been for the heroics of Sam Harrington in the Portchester goal the margin of defeat may have been greater. This will give the Lions great encouragement for their upcoming 2nd Round match of the U11 Challenge Cup against Fareham Town at Cams Alders next Saturday, both teams having a bye in the 1st Round.
Final Score: AFC Portchester Castles 3 - 4 Crofton Saints Lions
