Under 11 Lions unbeaten in five
Saturday 20th October 2012
Travaux Youth U11 v Crofton Saints U11 Lions
at Horndean College of Technology
The Lions took their unbeaten run to five matches this Saturday grinding out a 5-1 victory against a determined Travaux at Horndean. Travaux belied their lowly position in Division A by competing well and looking a definite threat when going forward. Indeed, they struck the woodwork twice after taking a very early lead. The Lions hit back with a brace from Kai Sterne before the break, but struggled to find some fluency at times against a dogged opposition. It wasn’t until late in the second half that the Lions put the match beyond the home side’s reach with a goal from Josh Fox and another two from Kai Sterne – taking his personal tally to 18 for the season. The Lions hit the post twice, missed a penalty and failed to find the net on several occasion after carving out a number of reasonable chances. They did get the ball past the keeper twice more, but the goals were ruled out for offside – something they will need to work on now that the full Laws of the Game have come into play.
Next up for the Lions will be the high-flying Whiteley Wanderers Lions and the boys will know that they will have to be a bit sharper in midfield and well-organised in defence to extend their unbeaten run. Chances will not come easy against Whitley and they must take them when they do. The Lions have the players with the ability and the skills to do so and a win is well within their grasp.
