Mid Solent Youth League Under 11 Challenge Cup Round 2
Fareham Town v Crofton Saints Lions at Henry Cort School, Fareham
This was a good win by the Lions on a wet a slippery pitch following heavy overnight rain. Fareham Town competed well and fought hard to stay in the match but fell away in the last fifteen leaving the visitors comfortable winner at the end. Although the Lions largely dominated the match they were hit three times on the break whilst pushing upfield pressing home attacks on the Fareham goal, a legacy of the Lions style of play. Nevertheless, the home side took their chances well. The Lions replied through Harry O’Malley, Josh Fox (3) and Kai Sterne (3) his third hat-trick in just five matches so far this season. With a bit of steadiness in front of the goal the margin could have been greater.
On form for the Lions were Scott Faulkner and Josh Fox, who, despite being on the end of some robust tackling at times, gave the home side plenty of problems with their pace and mazy runs.
Next up in the quarter finals will be AFC Portchester Castles which will be a tough test for the Lions following their hard-fought 4-3 win against them previously in the League.
